Kibbutz is a cooperative kind of living, which exists only in Israel.
In the past, each member of the kibbutz got the same budget whether he was a manager or simple employee. Many institutions were common, like dining room, laundry and others, but the most magnificent and radical idea was children who lived together and slept in the same building, separate from their parents.
We should remember that during those times in Israel, the “Kibutznikim” lived in very difficult conditions. Everyday was literally survival, a very different reality from the culture of abundance we have today.
These days, the kibbutz has been converted and efforts are being made to adapt to the needs of it’s members.
Each member has their own responsibility of supporting their family. All the families live, sleep and eat together in their private homes, but still there is great value towards community, people meet together during many activities throughout the year, support each other, especially on holidays and in educational activities with children.
A tour in the kibbutz allow us a peek into this special kind of living, in the past and present. We will try to comprehend the reasons this community chooses this way of life.
We will explore significant and historical sites in the development of the kibbutz, asking ourselves how it has changed. We will try to answer the question if it is possible to live like that today. What is the profit for the members and what is the price?
